Titel: "Act like a lady, think like a man"
Ja, någon gång skall man väl göra det, läsa sin livs sämsta bok, och jag gjorde det i veckan. Och det värsta är att det är en faktabok, under kategorin populärpsykologi; så därför jag skulle vilja kungöra en internationell varning för den här boken, och speciellt för kvinnor. Men VARFÖR i hela fridens namn köpte jag boken då??
Jo, så här är det. Om du inte känner Angelica`s bokvanor, lär du göra det nu. Alla som känner mig, vet att jag har en oerhörd fashination för självhjälpsböcker, populärpsykologi, relationsböcker (relationer är nämligen något av det mest intressanta som finns tycker jag; vänskapsrelationer, kärleksrelationer, föräldrarelationer, släktrelationer, syskonrelationer - you name it!) det är ett intresse som ständigt är under utveckling, och det finns riktigt bra böcker jag vill rekommendera av Tommy Hellsten, Patricia Sandahl Tudor och Stefan Einhorn, för att nämna några.
Denna boken var lättläst, den var på REA, den var sådär amerikanskt inbjudande med en käck man med blekta tänder som lovar guld och gröna skogar. Tja, jag slog till helt enkelt. Men nu skall jag bränna den på bål. Det finns författare på självhjälps-marknaden som lyckas göra business av ångest, bara för att de är kända och verbala. Steve Harvey`s bok "Act like a Lady, think like a Man", är ett sådant exempel. Steve är ståuppkomiker och har ingen psykologiexamina vad jag vet. Ändå har han skrivit denna bullshit bestseller om massa relationsnonsens. Karln har till och med ett kapitel med frågor, där han gör bred generalisering om vad män tycker och tänker. Svart/vit, kategorisk, generaliseringar som är häpnadsväckande, riktigt stereotypa kvinnoporträtt och oroväckande tankegångar, är vad som levereras sida upp och sida ner. WARNING FOKS!!
YES, one day we`ll all do it; read the worst book of our life, and I did it this week. And the worst part is that this book goes under the category; self help/psychology, so that`s why I would like to announce an international warning for this book, especially for women. Just look at the book cover; It screams one dollar psychology right..? So why did I buy this book in the first place?
Well, this is what it is. If you know what kind of book habit I`ll have, you wouldn't `t be surprised. Anyone who knows me, knows I have a tremendous fascination for self help books, popular psychology, relationship books (relationships is namely one of the most interesting thing when it comes to my interests; friendship, love relationships, parental relationships, age-gap relationships, you name it!) and there is a constant flow of these kind of literature in my book shelf. So that`s why, when I come over a book about, in this case; men, I`ll just buy it, without thinking and do research before.
So this book, "Act like a lady, think like a man" was on SALE guys, oki!. The book cover was really american inviting, a happy man (Steve Harvey) with bleached teeth, promising the moon, just to me. And for $13.99. Well, I didn't `t have to think twice and it was mine. But now i will burn it at the stake. There are writers on the self-help market that manage to do dirty business with people`s anxiety, because they are known and verbal. Steve Harvey`s book; "Act like a Lady, think like a Man", is one such example. Steve is a stand-up comedian and a well known TV-profile in America, and NOT the psychologist Dr. Phil on channel ten. But, he managed to write a bullshit bestseller about with tons of relationship nonsense. The man even have a chapter with questions, which he makes huge generalizations about what men thinks about for example women in high hills (!). It`s a black/White, categorical, really stereotypical female portraits, disturbing thoughts, and this is delivered like a smash in your face, page after page. Do I have to say it; Don`t read this bullshit!
